New Layout Elements
iCommunities site layoutOver the next few weeks we will be implementing a slightly different site layout.

This change relates to my ideas about creating "more customised/subjective points of access to iCommunities content that collect spaces together in ways that reflect community interests".

The attached plan (you can see a large version on Flickr) should give you a bit of an idea about what I hope to do.

Greetings from iCommunities.org!
"Around computers it is difficult to find the correct unit of time to measure progress. Some cathedrals took a century to complete. Can you imagine the grandeur and scope of a program that would take as long?" - "Epigrams in Programming", ACM SIGPLAN, Sept. 1982
Following the popular trend practiced by many cool web2.0 start-ups, we'd like to emphasize that iCommunities.org, as a place for learning and personal and professional growth, is in Beta (and probably will continue to be for some time! Perhaps even forever.). As such, we want to remind you that, while we've been around for a while now, you are still welcome to contribute to the development process!

We'd like to know what changes you'd like to see around here, and what would make the site more interesting and appealing as a place of internet community. We've had some ideas of our own, and I've written a short post in our Development Bog about my thoughts on the future directions for development which is just begging you to comment the heck out of it.

We're interested in anything you have to say. What other social networking and online service sites do you use, for example? Have you seen anything neat that we might be able to learn from? [Have a read of my post...and tell us all about it!]

This is a quick brainstorm that I put together of my 'general emphasis' ideas for iCommunities.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Tim and Derek
